Do you want to contribute to a safer society? As a correctional officer at a prison, you are the foundation of the security work. You work in teams with other professionals to maintain a safe and secure environment and to motivate clients towards a life without crime. Daily tasks include locking and unlocking residential rooms, searching premises, and monitoring, as well as providing counseling and preparing for release, among other duties. The role of a correctional officer involves a structured and routine-based approach with a focus on risk assessment and security awareness. The work is varied, and there are many development opportunities for those seeking continued employment. If necessary decisions are made, a placement in a special department for clients under 18 years old may also be relevant. The focus will be on creating safe environments that promote reintegration into society with activities such as school, student health, employment, and age-appropriate leisure activities. Furthermore, the rights of the child during enforcement must be respected in accordance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Through client-centered work, we create a meaningful existence in an otherwise adult and security-focused environment.
The probationary employment begins with a three-week introduction at Kumla Prison. After a few months of service, we will schedule when you will begin the mandatory basic training of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. The training lasts eight weeks and takes place during paid working hours. Ongoing assessments will be made before the probationary period transitions into permanent employment after six months.
